'Sticks and stones…'

Do you subscribe to the idiom of 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?'

This actually reminds me of a discussion I had with somebody about the movie Disturbia. There are some people who don't know WHY the kid should be arrested for HITTING his teacher, because the teacher said 'what would your father think?' as if we are to assume automatically that the teacher KNOWS his father is dead and is just being sadistic. My side of the argument was just that: sticks and stones, the law will only consider letting you off if you struck somebody because you felt threatened by them, and no matter how you twist it, 'what would your father think?' is NOT a threat.

Not really. Words can hurt. It depends on the type of person you are.

I say that if someone isnt paying my bills, mortgage, and car then i dont care what they think---- except for "youse guys" lol

That's what I think is so confusing about humans, we are capable of overcoming so much shit, and yet we allow ourselves to be offended by words, why is that? I don't agree with Eleanor Roosevelt that people can't make you feel what you don't want to because who wants to feel guilty? Who wants to feel like they should've never been born? Right? But at the same time, it IS just words, it reminds me of that 13 year old who hanged herself because a 'boy' on MySpace told her to, if you kill yourself because somebody tells you to, that really doesn't say much about you, does it?

It's called emotions. It's biological. Really. Some humans are devoid of it, some aren't, some take it better than others, some have to be hit with more to be offended than others. Everyone is different.

In pettier situations, yes. If someone steps too far over the line with their mouth, then damn the riddles. I got some sticks and stones for them.
