I wonder how many people there are who like me only knew of Mae West as an actress and very obviously as a sex symbol, but until recently, did NOT know that she was also a writer, specifically a playwright. I came across this little fact about a week ago and when I found out she was arrested on charges of obscenity when she produced her play 'SEX', I just knew I had to get it and read it. I got it in the mail today, in a book with two other plays that she wrote: The Drag, which is a homosexual play, and The Pleasure Man, which was a heterosexual redoing of The Drag if I read the introduction correctly.
Either way she worked in these plays, straight or gay, the critics and the police hated her, but the audiences loved her, and Sex had already run for 339 performances before they got raided, so you have to wonder what took so long on that one?
Anyway, has anybody here read this play, or any of hers?
