If you had an immediate family member who was accused of a crime, would you inform the police of something suspicious that person had done, or would you keep it to yourself?

Re: Would you tell?
That depends on the crime. I don't know that I would necessarily drop a dime but I don't think I'm going to lie to the police if they question me. I would probably confront that relative about my suspicions first before going to the police.

Of course I'd tell someone else like my wife where I was going in case I "disappeared".

Oh, boy! Well, if it's an immediate member then it could possibly affect ME. And I don't think I'd be willing do go "down" that him/her.

Re: Would you tell?
When I was a young man and a cop in New Orleans, I sometimes thot what if my dad were down here drunk and disorderly? How would I handle it? Arrest him? (Our family has a history of going from Mississippi to N.O. to raise hell). I tried to rationalize that it would be unlikely to happen and never concluded how I would deal with a drunk dad on my beat.

Re: Would you tell?
It would depend on the crime and if the police asked me about it.

Re: Would you tell?
would it make a difference if it were an accident? Like, your brother accidentally ran someone over and fled the scene... the pedestrian is dead, so there is no good that could come from turning him in except some closure for the victims family. Do you feel compelled to come forward?

I'd stay mum. It better be something heinous for me to say anything.

DAMN STR8. I have seen ppl left dying/dead in the streets here and the driver took off like it was a dog or a cat (decent ppl would stop for that too).
What makes news here is when a driver involved in a fatal accident actually does the right thing and stays at the scene. Most of the time it is hit and run. I would turn in a relative and then claim that I am not related to the coward.

Totally depends on the crime, but more likely than not, I would stay mum.
