How many of these are there and WHY are they so popular? I get that dolls are creepy, but still, when you go through the list, Talky Tina, Chucky, and the movies like Pinocchio's Revenge and Dead Silence, Dolls, the Puppet Master series, etc., anybody else got some to add to the list? I never saw Anthony Perkins' movie Magic, was that dummy alive as well?

I would think these movies were popular because they utilize something that every adult had at one time, and every child has right now. Dolls symbolize the innocence of youth, and are in our memories as our best friends. The idea that chucky can creep around the house, then fall and look like a doll when he wants to is kinda creepy. It is like an invisible man wandering around the house, not to mention that this killer doll is sleeping in bed with an innocent child-- so the suspense of what will happen is there.

I never thought about it like that. I know there are some people who even as kids found dolls to be quite scary. And I can certainly understand that, when I was a kid I had one of those talking doll houses, they have chips on their feet, put them in the holes in the floor and they talk. And I would experiment with how long I could keep the dolls talking until they just kept saying the same things over and over and over again, and one time the father doll sudden sounded very ominus as he spoke to the daughter doll. I could never get it to do that again, no matter how many times I tried, but as it was I was kind of glad to finally sell the house and get rid of it a few years later.

freaky. One of the scariest scenes i remember was the poltergeist clown coming to life and trying to strangle the kid. Just like in stephen King's IT, clowns represent fun, laughter, and children. Having one pull u under the bed to kill you is freakin nuts! and how to do kill a doll that has no pulse? pull the stuffing out, but does the stuffing reassemble to come back after you?

Oh man, Poltergeist, that and the steak! Damn you Steven Spielberg!

And funny you mention how do you kill a doll. Like an episode of Tales from the Darkside, Ursa Minor, girl gets a teddy bear for her birthday, things start happening, 'I didn't do it, teddy did'. They get a bear rug to show her what real bears are like, but things still happen and it's still Teddy's doing. The mother finds out the bear is actually alive and trying to kill them, so she stabs it with a knife and rips out the stuffing and throws it in the trash can, it still comes back, they finally destroy it, but the bear rug has now come to life!

That is really NOT cool! and we wonder why kids are messed up today! lol

Yeah really. Now what I find odd is the kids that live next door, they can watch the Chucky movies, no problem, but they have never been allowed to read ghost stories because sabes que 'it's too scary, they'll have nightmares', what the hell?

Did u ever see the movie Nightmares (1983)? I posted it in another thread... was a few different stories. One was the guy in the back seat u mentioned before. One was about a video game (80s arcades were filled with kids that spent all their time/money there--- we used to bet who would beat who)that emilio esteves is playing and he kinda gets sucked into the game. Another example of how something innocent relating to children can be evil and dangerous
