| Ran out of real sugar and had to put Splenda in my cereal. This artificial junk leaves the nastiest aftertaste. | |

Eww, I would've just ate the cereal without anything added.

| I use Equal in my coffee and sometimes I put sugar in my cereal but most of the time I don't. | |

This is a good question. Now a neighbor of ours kept a TON of Splenda around because she was diabetic and couldn't have sugar, but if the reports that say artificial sweeteners are so many times more potent than real sugar are true, I don't get the point in taking it either.

There's a huge difference in blood sugar numbers between the artificial sweeteners & real sugar. They're necessary for people who are diabetic. Whether or not there are other issues with them remains to be seen. But if people with diabetes are going to have anything sweet or sweeten drinks they don't have much choice but to use an artificial sweetener.

| I like Splenda in hot tea, it's about all I use it for. But when it comes to coffee I can't handle fake sugar of any kind (or in sodas). | |

| I use splenda most of the time for my diabetic husband. It beats the heck out of other sugarless sweeteners as you can cook with it too. | |

That's what I have to do. But it doesn't bake well. Splenda ruined my brownies lol

That's what I have to do. But it doesn't bake well. Splenda ruined my brownies lol I think it depends on what you are making. I ruined a perfectly good cake with one of the other fakes. However I use Splends mostly for fruity desserts, fruit pies come out very well. Lemon pies not so good. If you are careful to balance your meals you can have carbs so with some desserts I will use a combination of Splenda and real sugar. Last Xmas the pumpkin pie came out fine with half real sugar and half Splenda. We got very lucky and when he was first diagnosed with pre-diabetes we had some really good sessions with nutritionists at the hospital. Then I read that within 10 years pre-diabetics end up on insulin. We did very well for those 10 years and he was doing so well that a new doctor told us that he didn't have a problem. So we made a mistake , we lightened up and when he found (unsweetened) orange juice had lots of potassium which he needed for leg cramps he started drinking that. Unfortunately we screwed up. He is on medication now, not shots but pills and we are back to being real careful, and using the balancing the original dieticians told us about, so he doesn't feel deprived at all.
