Not 'we' exactly, but I would like to know why the newspapers had to take out large articles to announce that Obama turned 50 yesterday. I certainly don't recall the newspapers ever making an announcement when George Bush had a birthday.

Those sure never made it into our newspapers but we've got to have an announcement 'Obama turns 50 tomorrow', then 'Obama turns 50 today', almost half page articles just to announce it, why?

I've seen articles & news reports of just about every president I can remember on their birthday. And 50 is actually considered a milestone so it's not a surprise it's being covered. The internet age & 24 hour round the clock news has just changed the way things are covered now.

Maybe because he is one of the youngest presidents (5th)?
If they don't preempt any of my TV shows I don't really give a shit.

50 is a milestone birthday. They made a big deal out of Clinton turning 50 too. Any sitting president who celebrates this birthday is going to get press coverage about it.
