MASH

Even though I was barely alive when it was winding down, it was still a bit before my times....and reruns of it haven't played on TV here in a long time. I remember my father used to watch it. Did you watch Mash?

Oh yeah, I like that show, I still watch it whenever I catch it on TV, I love Hawkeye, and I love Klinger.

Nah. Didn't like it.

I remember when it game on the heels of the movie and thinking it was going to suck but the ones with the original cast were great. Radar used to smoke and drink but some how the character devolved into some naive virgin. The thing ran 3 or 4 times longer than the actual Korean War.

Korea lasted 3 years, M*A*S*H was 11. By the way Marc, that's a thing, it's a minor thing, but for the TV show it has the *'s in it, MASH is the movie's title.

That's funny because in Jamie Farr's autobiography, Just Farr Fun, he said when M*A*S*H was originally on, after school the kids would rush home to be in time when the opening credits started, kind of like when the 3 Stooges came on TV, kids would hear the three blind mice theme and rush to the set.

Now does anybody here remember the episode Preventative Medicine where Hawkeye takes out a colonel's appendix to keep him from going out the next day and leading 100 more soldiers into an attack that will land them in the OR as well? Originally that script was written that he and BJ were both willing to do it, but Mike Ferrell was opposed to the idea of cutting open a healthy body, calling it mutilation, and Alan Alda could see why Hawkeye would do it and he stood by that point, so their real life beliefs got worked into the script instead. Maybe that made it more powerful, but I would've preferred it if Hunnicutt was onboard for the appendectomy as well.

It's kind of funny when he said that cutting into a healthy body is mutilation, because for one thing mutilation is a VERY big hit with people today, but also consider all the cosmetic surgeries done, cutting into healthy bodies to either take something out or put something in, and every time there's risk of infection and possibly endangering the patients' health and overall lives, and as Hawkeye said, for what, a few bucks.
