This is not limited to only the Johnny Depp version from a few years ago, I personally have not seen that version and don't rightly care to. I saw the 1936...not original, two silent versions were made but seem to have been lost by time, but 1936 with Todd Slaughter, EXCELLENT 30s psychopathic killer variety of villain, but seemed to always turn into a great blubbering coward when met with his own demise, turnabout seemed to always be a bitch for him in those movies...but he did crazy well and I think he did Sweeney Todd well also. Has anybody seen any version of the movie?

So why do you refuse to see the current movie adaptation of this play?
I saw it in theater and liked it. Got the DVD also.

I loved Sweeney Todd. I'm not the biggest fan of musicals, but I really enjoyed this one. Johnny Depp can do no wrong in my eyes.

I have the tape with Angela Lansbury, haven't seen it yet though, just the opening.
My mother hasn't seen it, we got the tape from a neighbor and she was absolutely HORRIFIED when she learned what was done with the men's bodies, at dinner she said 'tell your father about that!' and I think I was laughing by that time...I don't know, maybe it's just me but that fact that human flesh went into the pies and the customers were unintentionally committing cannibalism didn't really bother me much.
