Say you found a shopping bag with an article of clothing that you cannot wear (either wrong size, gender, etc., etc. - it's no good to you for whatever reason.) Upon opening the bag, you notice that there is a receipt inside, dated yesterday, and that whoever purchased it paid cash.

What would you do?

Return it and get the money.....if I decide to take the bag. If I found the bag where someone would most likely come back for it....I would leave it there.

I would just return it to customer service and let them deal with it to see if they could find the owner of the bag.

Without a clue as to who it belonged to? Refund time. The store is just going to put it back on the shelf and try to sell it again.
