What happens when the fate of the next president rests in the hands of one man, and, disputably, a dumb one? This one was mildly amusing, and one of Dennis Hopper's (RIP) last performances.
Kevin Costner plays a...well I don't know what you'd call him, dumb hick comes to mind but maybe that's just mean...of course I always wonder about actors who had these GREAT roles and now play characters that make you go HUH? I'm not a fan of Costner but he was Elliot Ness in the Untouchables and he did Dances with Wolves and Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, and now this character of Bud...makes you wonder, I think.
Anyway, I have no doubt there are a lot of people out there like Bud who shirk their responsibilities especially those as a parent. Some people complain about his daughter in the movie saying they hate smart kids...I hate the overly smart kids like impossibly smart (like Franklin from My Wife and Kids) or chock full of facts and spewing them for no known reason (Evan Almighty), but I like Molly in this movie, I thought she was a believable character.
Yet another movie that has jumped on the bandwagon of uncertain endings...we never find out WHO he votes for, which I think defeats the purpose of the movie because in the beginning he tells his daughter voting doesn't change anything, well without revealing who he elected, what has been gained? Oh, he knows NOW why he's voting and who he's voting for, but what do we get out of it?
Anybody else see this one?
