Supernova's thread about the two dollar bill prompted me to ask this. When a silver dollar or fifty-cent coins fall into your possession, do you spend them as quickly as you would any other dollar/two quarters, or do you hang onto them?

Spend them. They're just as plentiful as quarter....no value in those shits other than 50 cents.

I hardly ever see a 50 cent piece. I would ask for 2 quarters instead - my washer and dryer appreciate it.
I have a Morgan silver dollar as a specimen of old money.

I usually try to trade them in for a $1 bill or 2 quarters, them things are useless when it comes to vending machines.

I don't know where but when my brother and I were kids we had some of the JFK half dollars, and you better believe we clung to them, and our Bicentennial quarters, and then several years went by, never saw another of either again, and now, about half the time, we can get half dollars from the bank. But also since you bring this up, what about the gold dollar coins with Sacajawea and the presidents on them? Same thing, 10 years ago we found a couple of the Sacajawea dollar coins, held tight to them, now you can get a ton of them at the bank and ones with Washington, Madison, Adams, Grant, etc. on them as well, we collect those too.
