Anyone else get the impression that the show is trying really hard to make Cutter into a permanent character, with these odd and cold (yet plentiful) connections? Today when he spoke of having kids with Aubrey, it just seemed very heavy handed; like TPTB were saying to viewers that this guy is here for the long haul.

All I know is that Cutter talking to the porcupine is so dumb and corny. The way he and Aubrey (through that stupid stuffed animal and gun) are now loosely connected to the TSJTodd murder s/l is dragging it down.

They've tried to make several characters permanent but they get bored too easily and end up killing them off. Nash should've been a permanent character but they threw him through a skylight. Gigi should've been a permanent character but they poisoned her. Shane should be a permanent character but they seem to hate having this kid be involved actively in a story. The show is it's own worst enemy.

The difference is that when Max came, he was effortlessly thrown in with Cord, Tina and the Buchanan's and it gave him immediate character credibility & distinction. They've given Cutter this "posse" of newbie females, but they haven't given him any important ties to any seminal character. The interaction he's had with the more important players has been fleeting or petty. He is too isolated from the rest of the show and is spending too time doing piddly things...like talking to stuffed porcupines and having amorphous conversations about his questionable past with his stripper sister and con artist GF. I can't easily get attached to him like that.
