I was pleasantly surprised that they cast Alfre Woodward as Lafayette's mother. Kinda works too, since both she and Nelson Ellis (Lafayette) have mysterious looking eyes. Hope she makes a number of appearances throughout the season and has some scenes with Lettie Mae, who I assume is her sister.

Speaking of AW, sort of ironic how both she and Mehcad Brooks (Eggs) are/were both on TB, after being on Desperate Housewives together.

I was surprised to see her as Lafayettes mother too. I hope she is on more I always liked her on DH. I realized from DH that I have seen her in a lot of movies. I was watching that Farrah Fawcett movie Extremities and AW was one of her roommates.

She was a good choice to play his mother.
