| I think this is one of the dumbest laws in existence. Now I can understand if you have a great big St. Bernard of a greyhound then yes, I can see why you can't bury that in your yard, but a cat or a 20 pound dog, why not? What if you don't live near a pet cemetery? What if a stray dies in your yard and animal control won't come to get it, and it's illegal to dispose of them in the trash? | |

| I have pets buried in my yard. Don't care what the city thinks about it. When there's a dead stray I call animal control. | |

| No, I don't think it should be illegal. In fact ~ unless laws changed in recent years ~ it is legal to bury a person on their own property in Oregon. | |

| If I had a shovel, I would have buried our cat last month but I took her to the vet. I'm glad I did because a few weeks later we got a sympathy card from them with a tuft of her fur wrapped up as a keep sake. I keep meaning to send a thank you card. | |

| So long as the property owner adheres to burial guidelines, then I don't think it should be. | |

| So let's try a new question, WHY is it illegal? For what purpose? How does this benefit society or civilization? | |

| I won't pretend to know why it is illegal. Probably something about soil and preservation. I wouldn't even think twice about burying a pet on my land if I intended to live there for the remainder of my life. My parents buried our dogs on the land, and the one they had for years had her own headstone and everything. | |

| Exactly, and what's wrong with that? And like I said, if it's not a St. Bernard or anything you wouldn't have to worry much about digging too deep and hitting a gas line or something. | |
