What do you think about unisex names like Dana, Tracy, Avery, Casey, Reese, Cameron. Would you name your son a unisex name even if it sounded more feminine, or your daughter a unisex name that sounded more masculine?

Only a few. In the list above, Tracy is the only one I like. Cameron definitely sounds masculine.

I like distinction between the sexes, so I tend to like feminine names for girls and more manly names for guys.

I happen to know a 30-sum woman named Tyson. I simply cannot get used to it.

I like some unisex names and others I don't like because I don't consider them to be unisex names.

Dana is a girls name and any guy called Dana is going to get made fun of. Unless you are a famous comedian like Dana Carvey, if you're a guy with that name, you're screwed!

Tracy is not as bad as Dana, but it is still a more feminine sounding name to me.

Avery, Casey and Reese are neutral to me and sound like genuine unisex names.

Cameron sounds masculine to me and once again, unless you are Cameron Diaz you probably don't want to be a girl called Cameron IMHO.

I'll just add that here is how I feel about some other common unisex names:

Alex: Masculine (however Alexis which is another unisex name sounds more feminine to me)

Angel: Neutral (although I've always associated Angel with "male" since angels in the bible are male, while Angela, Angelica or Angelina are "female")

Dakota: Feminine (thank Dakota Fanning for that)

Harley: Neutral (I used to consider this masculine, but ever since the Harley Quinn character in Batman, its starting to sound more feminine to me)

Hayden: Masculine (perhaps because the most famous Hadey I know "Christensen" is male)

Jamie: Neutral (Jamie is perhaps the epidome of the unisex name; it sounds equally feminine as it does masculine)

Jordan: Neutral (correction, Jordan is the most unisex name bar none)

Kelly: Feminine (I do know a guy called Kelly, but I always made fun of him for having a girl's name)

Kelsey: Masculine (for one thing, I have a male cousin called Kelsey, then there is Kelsey Grammer)

Morgan: Neutral (the first question I ask when someone tells me about their friend "Morgan" is 'boy or girl'?)

Riley: Masculine (Riley is definetely a boy's name, although I am starting to hear more and more about girls named Riley. Curious)

Taylor: Masculine (I don't understand how male professions can become feminine names; a female taylor is a called a seamstress.)

Unisex names are okay depending on what it is. I already have a middle name picked out for my child, whether it's a boy or girl. It doesn't sound feminine or masculine one way or the other.

I have a unisex name, and so does my brother. I like them, I like names that are not quite so normal and average.

    I don't dislike them but I don't think I would pick one.

i like Taylor and Jordan... but i wouldnt necessarily unisex them. I like Taylor for a woman and Jordan for both.

But I would not choose Taylor as a boy's name... because there are others i like better.

I like Shelby for a girl.. but for a guy it sounds dorky
