How well is your grasp of Algebra today? Did any of what you learned about it in school ever become useful to you later in life?

Re: Algebra
I remember Algebra pretty well basically. I used it in my adult life in chemistry.

Re: Algebra
IDK if I ever used it but it was the only math class that I did exceptionally well in. Because it required more abstract thot as opposed to the absolutes of regular math. (I managed to graduate HS without memorizing the multiplication table - I don't do well with rote learning).
So, I could grasp that you could take 7 away from 5 with a negative 2 and my more grounded classmates could not comprehend such.
Now fractions are useless. I think they should be outlawed. In half a century of working I have never needed to know what 5/8 of 9/16 of anything was. It should all be decimals.

Re: Algebra
I think I remember the basics, but has it ever happened in real life? No. So I can't see why I had to bother with it; people talk about classes that should be reserved specifically for students who WANT them and will actually use them in their lives, why shouldn't that be one of them?

Re: Algebra
I hated math....but I did well in Algebra. I hasn't helped me much in real life, but if you gave me a problem to solve, I can do it. I'm surprised that I still remember how.

Re: Algebra
I've never used algebra past high school, and hated it along with geometry, but I did much better in physics both in high school and college. I also use statistical math on a daily basis at work.

Re: Algebra
Never took algebra. I was a mathematical idiot, and still have to use mental "fingers" for simple calculation.
Gratefully, I did well in other courses.

Re: Algebra
I used to like math, Algebra the best. But I haven't used it in my life now, and barely remember any of it.
