OH, I'm a white guy - I can't say nigger unless I am a racist redneck living in the 1950s.

My wife could say it (and she did, sometime talking about her low-class brothers and sisters, other times talking about those low class thugs with their pants off their ass).

It is a fucking word, one-third of my dictionary test. Before buying a dictionary I look up faggot, nigger and fuck. If those words are not in it, then it is a piece of shit for an English dictionary and I would not buy it.

Context is important with language. If a person calls another a "fucking nigger," then it is inflammatory. But if a news commentator is discussing that assault, then it is acceptable to use the actual word, not some code word that everyone knows but too afraid to say. Like some child saying he has to go #1 or #2 instead of urinate or defecate or even piss or shit.

They are words. They exist. Use them when needed to convey a message. That is what language is about.

Using the code N-word is awkward and could be confusing. The Naturist Society magazine once had a section called "The N-Word Spoken Here" a bunch of shorts about nude issues.

Here is the most recent obfuscation from Leonard Pitts of The Miami Herald. "He was a black man who was beaten and then run over with a pickup truck, allegedly be a group of white teenagers who, according to procecutors, decide they wanted to go 'eff with some N-words.'"

Now whether the Herald made the changes or if the prosecutor actually used such inane words, IDK but when presenting and account of such a heinous crime, why not use the language that will infuriate the jury. "fuck with some niggers!" is what the haters said - so say it. Let the hatred be expressed like it was. Don't obfuscate, don't euphemise - JUST SAY IT!

Oh, BTW, this rant was in one flow. I am not even going to go back and check what I wrote. I'm sure someone else on here will pick it apart for me. But I really get upset with stupid language usage.

LOL. People are getting too comfortable with that word, and then want to pass it off like it's imperative to say it to 'convey a message'. People know what the 'n-word' means. What Whoopi is comfortable with and what Sherri is comfortable with are two different things. Sherri doesn't like White people saying it period, now matter what 'message they're trying to convey'. And she has every right to feel that way. Reminds of an interview a few years back that Dave Chappelle did when he decided not to return to his highly popular show and he explained the reason why. White folks were laughing a little TOO damn hard at them jokes and it made him feel uncomfortable. And I fully understood and fully applaud him for not selling himself out to make a dollar. More people should have the same integrity.

Hey, I try. Another thing that annoyed me about that interview was Barbara Walters so-called 'amazement' at the fact that Sherri got upset. Barbara asked her why she was upset, then Sherri said it was a bit complicated to explain her feelings, then Barbara counters with the "I had no idea and I'm amazed that you're upset by the fact that I said it" as if ALL black folks should be or are complacent with the word nigger like Whoopi is. I couldn't (but I could) believe it.
