    Tonight TCM is airing 3 Three Musketeers film.

    1973 Olive Reed

    1948 Gene Kelly

    1935 Walter Abel



    There are others, including Douglas Fairbanks (1921), which won't be shown. I also imagine there are similar tales under a different movie title. Musketeer fans name them all.


    Now, do we need another Musketeer movie. Well, next Friday you can catch D'Artagnan and the gang. Here's the take:


    "The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war".

    I have been watching the trailers for this 3-D extravaganza and if they have a 2-D version I MAY check it out at regular price.

    It is just too silly, both in the special effects, weapons & technology that were centuries ahead of the time as well as some of the dialogue I heard: "It was an off day."

    It looks like they took an old hero/action story and merged it with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

    It does seem a bit over-the-top, although I really like Orlando Bloom.

    But "King Kong" has been made three times now and we can count on another one within 20 years. And I still much prefer the first one.

    We don't need one but that never stopped Hollywood. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the 1973 version.
