The new 3 Musketeers movies prompted me to start this one.

How many of you saw all the King Kong movies? Which was your favorite?

1933
1976 (saw this one the other day)
1998 (Mighty Joe Young ~ I'd forgotten about this one)

I found out that there were a LOT more King Kong movies filmed in Japan since the silent era (the one we know with Fay Wray was not THE first).

The 1933 version with Fay Wray is still my favorite. I thought the '76 version with Jessica Lange stank.

True. I think that was Jessica Lange's first film role. Two Oscars later and she's still going pretty strong. Jeff Bridges too. I've always wanted to see the original King Kong with the deleted scene of what awaited the men who were knocked off the fallen log. I thought Peter Jackson did a worthy remake. Did you ever see Son of Kong? Carl Denham makes it back to Skull Island to meet Kong's offspring. That man was just bad news for that family.

I have not but would like to. Hopefully Netflex has it.

I have seen them all and the Fay Wray one is my favorite too. By the Way, Mighty Joe Young from 1998 is also a re-make, I love the original one with Terry Moore as a kid I used to watch it over and over whenever it was on TV.

The 2005 version of King Kong was ruined by casting Jack Black in one of the leading roles. That expression on his face during the movie just turned me off. Other than that it wasn't bad.

I didn't read Bluesmama's post carefully enough and didn't notice the date she gave for Mighty Joe Young. I forgot they made a remake. I thought she meant the original with Terry Moore that Tony was talking about.

I didn't think Jack Black was a good choice for the role, either. Too charicature-like.

As for Kong himself (the "look", the mechanical movements, the eyes) I still go with the original one, too. I really didn't like the looks of the Kong in the '76 version; too fakey.

I haven't seen the original Mighty Joe Young in many years. I should Netflix that one, too.

The ending in 1933 is still one of the saddest scenes in movie history for me.

It really is despite the more emotional scenes from Naomi Watts and Jessica Lange in the later versions.
