I grew up with the idea and the paranoia of it.

Who woulda ever believed that the Soviet Union would disappear and the US and Russia would do joint ventures in space, or that China, while claiming to be communist would become a leading capitalist power.

There will likely be some unconscionable Muslim fanatic detonate a nuclear device in a US or European city - then hopefully the US and Russia can find a way to dispose of all their stockpiled nuclear devices.

IDK what effect it would have on the entire planet but I suppose the Middle East would be uninhabitable for thousands of years and Islam would lose a lot of adherents.
