    This weekend's Northeaster blew out our power for a good 36 hours, so it got me thinking how much we take electricity for granted sometimes, when you have to live and amuse yourself without it.

    What can you add to the list of things you can do without electricity? (any time of the year)

    I'll start:

    Play games
    Mow the lawn
    Have sex (though some might need electricity for that. . .LOL)
    Read
    Do hand sewing/needlepoint/knitting

    HG with the Noreaster we had this weekend you would go for a walk and cook on a grill and go swimming during an ice storm and 34 degree weather? LOL!!!

    Probably not, and I didn't, but I'm thinking of any time of year, any time of day, that has no electricity! LOL Summer storms can knock it out, too, so going to the beach is an option you can do without power. big grin

    I have a kerosene lamp for those time our lights go out. You can read quite well by it.

    I lived in a cabin in the woods for a while, and a thatched roof cabana in Guatemala for a month that did not have electricity.

    Kerosene lamps and lanterns as well as candles are what ppl used for centuries.

    I'm talking about at night. And I don't see the point in straining your eyes just to he able to read with a flimsy candle. Eh, different strokes for different folks.

    Top on my list is become very, very nervous!

    I do not like the power to be out. Unless it is daylight, then I don't care. But once night hits, I would like to walk somewhere that has a generator.

    Look at the Stars!

    When Hurricane Wilma knocked out the electric for two counties, I stood on my porch and was amazed at the stars. You can't see them from cities because of all the glow from lights, but for the first Time I was seeing a black sky full of little lights.

    It was amazing - I hadn't seen that since being in the country on a cold night.

    You could dust your house, clean the bathrooms, clean and organize closets/attic/basement, take your dog for a walk (or cats in my case!). You could even have a yard sale outside with all that stuff you got out of cleaning out your closets, attic and basement. LOL

    Bummer. Let's all do the booga-booga dance and pay homage to the Gods of Electricity, in hopes that it will stay on for you! big grin

    If not, then you could always cut paper snowflakes and hang them on your windows to festively compliment the snow coming outside--that's something you can do without electricity! LOL
