Disturbing footage of a young woman apparently hurling puppies into a river has sparked outrage on the Internet among animal lovers and activists.

The video, believed to have been filmed in either Bosnia or Croatia, though no one knows for sure, shows a girl in a hooded sweatshirt lifting whimpering dogs out of a bucket and recklessly tossing them into the rapids.

Estimated to be in her late teens or early twenties, the identity of the girl in the video remains a mystery. A Facebook group called "Find the Girl Who Threw Puppies in River" already has over 2,300 followers.

Other reports have speculated the video may be a hoax, and that the video's makers may be intending to capture the same viral notoriety as Mary Bale, the 45-year-old British woman who began receiving death threats when CCTV footage of her throwing a neighborhood cat into a trash can surfaced last week. According to The Telegraph, a PETA spokesman in Bosnia said the organization had been notified of the incident, but offered no further details.

It didn't look like a hoax to me, but if that's real, it's simply a sick thing to do.

I really don't know what the circumstances were behind her doing this. Maybe she couldn't afford to keep them or something, but she seemed to get pleasure out of it. Just wow!

I'm curious to WHO filmed her. Because unless it's a helluva zoom, the one shooting the incident had to be right there, with lens aiming down into the bucket.

And it doesn't look like a hoax to me.

People crazy. Hope those puppies were able to dog paddle to safety.
