Yeah. Pretty depressing but chilling in how some aspects have come to pass such as trying to control the way we think by the P.C. words we're supposed to use.

This is one that I have not gotten around to reading yet, though I tried a couple of times before. I read Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World but 1984 is one I have to get to next.

I preferred Animal Farm. I found 1984 to be a bit unrealistic and paranoid for my tastes, but some people love it!

GReat book. Goes along with Harrison Bergeron. How long before it becomes reality?

Some would argue that it already is, and for some parts it seems to be true, some form or other of 'Big Brother' is everywhere watching people.

I am old enough to remember being told about the evil Russians who spied on each other and were always watching their neighbors to report any transgressions. We were told how lucky we were to be living in the USA where that would never happen...

Re: 1984 by George Orwell
Well, last night I finished 1984 and my conclusion about the book is that it started out with a good potential but it's very overrated and underwhelming, to say nothing of confusing. And in all actuality, the hype people make about the idea of Big Brother is more interesting than the story it actually appeared in. Why people always point to this one as such a great dystopian future novel in place of others, I'd like to know.

Re: 1984 by George Orwell
Another I read probably nearly 45 years ago, it was very frightening to think about. Especially as we get closer and closer to Big Brother these days.
