Since when is it ok to jump bail when your best buds with the cops ? Now it's not that I don't like a well written bad guys but a half a** phoney hero that screws around with evidence, over looks attemped murders, bail jumping, blackmailing crime victims to get his sister inlaw off the hook, failing to interview crime victims to protect the criminal who is a close personal friend doesn't make John edgy or a grey character it makes him a pig that abuses his power to help his friends and family avoid the juctice system. How the heck can the show think it's building any kind of drama or angst if everyone knows John will cover for Cole, cover for Natalie etc if we all know wants going to happen whats the point of putting characters on the hook that is so easily slipped off ?

And the onething they forget there are Trevor/Todd fans out there that do root for him and there's not just fanbases for John, Cole, Rex and every other charcter they seem to think fans root for.
That's one of the big problems with this show and something the two TIIC will never get through their heads.

You two really summed it up. In recent years, John has proven to be the bigger criminal than Todd. I'd put John on par with Dorian in terms of crimes and corruption, though Dorian doesn't have the murders behind her that John does. I'm not at all surprised about Cole. Marty and John have given him such a sense of entitlement that he knows he has nothing to worry about jumping bail. When your Mom was bedding the town's most corrupt cop and fulfilling his need to be with a damsel in distress, Cole had nothing to worry about anymore than Natalie of Marty would. Even though Jarty have broken up, Cole knows he has John on his side and that John will do all he can to see that Cole gets away with his murder attempt.
What TPTB don't seem to get is that all they're doing is alienating the Todd fans even more and proving over and over again what a total prick John is. The hero worship makes me wonder if RC actually has a thing for John that's why John is portrayed as a perfect, flawless person who can do no wrong. The more TPTB try and paint John as a good guy, the worse he ends up looking.

So true. When someone who is in jail for attempted murder is actually let out of their jail cell to go to the prom, you know that it is a lost cause with that kind of authority in place.

So glad the station I watch OLTL on doesn't have promos!!!! When it comes to John and how TPTB pimp him, I keep thinking of Shakespeare and that line from Macbeth - "The lady doth protest too much, methinks". If John truly was a decent person, good lover and a hero, TPTB wouldn't constantly have to shove it in our faces and keep telling us - John's actions would show us. Instead, they show just the opposite, so TPTB have to keep trying to tell us, hoping they'll brainwash us into seeing John as something other than a corrupt criminal hiding behind a badge and abusing his position and using his badge as an excuse to break the law, play favourites and help criminals go free. John is a violent thug with no respect for the law and nothing all TPTB are doing is making it all the more obvious the more they try and paint a different picture.

I think John is about as corrupt as they come and I am willing to bet nothing will ever be mentioned about Cole jumping bale. Watch and see. This is why I hate him.

Oh my gosh - they're actually playing that? I couldn't stop laughing - talk about cheesy and overdone. I really don't know how ME did that with a straight face. Could John be more propped and overpimped? They have some truth, though - he really does scar those he loves - sucks them dried and destroys their souls, turns them into mindless goons. He keeps the streets safe? He arrests criminals? Uhm - the only criminals he arrests are those he doesn't like, unless he's forced to. Compare how Markko and Cole were treated, when Cole's the one who tried to murder a guy. Where were the reduced charges to Markko? With what Nora was trying to plead Cole's down to, Ford's the one who should have been arrested for damaging Markko's hand, if they were going by that sprained wrist. Cole jumps bail and John looks the other way. If Todd or Lindsay had jumped bail, John would have thrown the book at them and in Todd's case, beat him to a bloody pulp.
That commercial looks more like a spoof to mock John!!!!! They really are convinced this guy is Batman or some superhero. If that's how they see John, no wonder they write him as flawless and perfect a saint who wouldn't harm a fly. Talk about delusional! Actually, it's kinda scary how out of it they really are. No wonder OLTL is doing so poorly in the ratings!!! I can just see the promo for Todd - what a decent, honest upstanding guy he is - how he'd never harm a mosquito.
Let's see now: "The sun rises. The sounds awakening the residents of Llanview Pennsylvania from a deep sleep. Including me. I rise. I wait for the news stories to seal the fate of my headlines. I open up doors. I investigate with absolute truth and integrity. I always paint people in the best light possible. I work hard to present the truth and I have never hurt the ones I love. People wear bullet proof vests. There is nothing I could do to truly hurt them. I am perfect. I can do no wrong. Love is dangerous. Those who fall in love with me catch a glimpse of perfection. I wouldn't hurt a mosquito. I save mosquitoes. Woman fall in lover with me because they know that I am flawless. I am Todd Manning - a saint first and a lover second.
Here's what John's promo should say: Rain falls. It's sound lulling the residents of Llanview Pennsylvania into a deep sleep. Except for me. I'm more awake at night. The sirens sound and I race to find Todd, ready to seal his fate. I break down his door, point my gun, assault him and arrest him. I will do anything I have to to put him away for life. The law means nothing to me. If you are my friend, you have no worries. I will see that you do no time for your crime. The DA is my friend. She will help you get off. You have nothing to fear. Criminals go free, just to give me a chance to arrest Todd and keep him off the streets. Love is danger. I've learned that the hard way. I see a damsel in distress. I must rescue her. It is an impulse I can't control. I'll lie to her to have my way with her. They fall under my spell and are as good as dead. I suck them dry and lave them lifeless and brainless, incapable of truly thinking for themselves. I am careful. As soon as they get to close, I move on. You fall under the spell even for a second, you're as good as dead. Not me. I'm detective John McBain - a criminal first, a creep second.

The promo is sheer comedy. Straight out of an old 1960s-style Cops 'n Robbers trailer. Just gives you further insight on how much of an inflated opinion ABC has about McBain. I think they probably thought viewers would find it practically titillating. No.

That promo is trying for edgy dark crime fighter to bad the character is written like a cop that uses his badge to help friends beat the rap and hassle folks he doesn't like it wouldn't bother me so much if the show didn't try to blow smoke up your butts about this character.

ITA Sue and Chris! For anyone who watched OLTL and doesn't worship John, that promo comes off as cheesy and horribly written and a total lie. If John wasn't such a lying criminal who constantly abused his badge and harassed those he didn't like while working to get off those he does, the promo might not be so bad but for anyone who watched OLTL, they'd know how forced and fake that promo is.

It actually makes me wonder about the sanity of those in charge of OLTL, if that's really how they see John - scary that they're so delusional and out of it. Still, it gives us even more reason to mock John and more reason to doubt that TPTB actually know anything.
