......that the absolute WORST pain in the world is tooth pain. Yep, has to be it. Not menstrual cramps, not childbirth, not back pain, not getting shot in the head.....it's a toothache. I'm sitting at my desk trying to nurse this toothache that I've had for the past four days and its not going away. My dentist can't see me until Friday, but I think I'm going to go there after work and cry like a baby and get some sympathy. I can't wait till Friday. And these painkillers are NOT helping!

Re: I'm convinced......
I had one like that once, knew what was coming (root canal), and couldn't wait to get that root canal. Just so he could numb it with the shot, and clean out it out. When tooth pain is bad enough it affects the whole disposition.
But I have to say, my own worst pain ever was a "charley horse" in my back a few years ago. The morphine drip at the hospital didn't even take the edge off the pain.

Most dentists ask if you are in pain and it becomes emergency status. You should tell your dentist you HAVE to see him NOW!

Re: I'm convinced......
Don't know about childbirth, but there CAN be a worse pain than tooth pain, tooth EXTRACTION pain! First tooth I had extracted was not hurting but it was breaking apart, and I had it cut out WITHOUT the benefit of nitrous oxide and I felt EVERY SECOND OF THAT PROCEDURE! Good thing he didn't have any other patients in that night. Oh and the worst actual TOOTH pain I had, the whole center of my tooth broke so I had a hole in it for a couple weeks before he could remove it and that one was SO bad he couldn't just cut/rip it out, he had to use the drill too. THAT time I got the laughing gas.
But yeah if you're in pain and you tell them that, then it gets bumped to an emergency list but I do know what you mean because here, we have 2 dentists, and one of them absolutely will NOT take emergencies, you have to have an appointment so much time in advance, and you have to be of the richer variety, he won't take just anybody and he doesn't do emergencies. But the problem is then all emergencies get bumped to the other dentist so depending on how bad your case is you can STILL wind up waiting about a month.

honestly never had a tootache, or childbirth. But the worst pain i ever felt was having my IUD inserted. It wouldnt have been so bad if it was inserted on the first try... but it took the dr 3 tries to set it in right! Not looking forward to having it removed lol

And that worked! Maaan....I was sitting here typing out that post on my phone and the pain was at about a 5.5. Grin and bear it. Then about an hour later, it was a 7. So I called up the dentist and told them that I had an appointment for Friday, but I'm really in pain and I need to see them right away. They said I could come in then, but I couldn't leave right away....so they said to come in after work. And then right before it was time for me to leave work, the pain intensified to a 10.5. Imagine driving in NYC traffic on the Grand Central Pkwy in hellifying pain trying to make it to the dentist. It was in my jaw, I even felt it near my ears. I thought I was going to pass out. So I get there and I tell them what the deal is and they take an X-ray and the verdict: I need a root canal. Apparently, I broke the tooth in back of my mouth....on the top row of my teeth, I cracked the molar on the tooth next to the very last tooth, actually right in between. And it's funny that I had no idea I did that because when I looked in the mirror in my mouth, I didn't see any broken teeth or any redness or swelling, I don't have any gaps in my teeth and when I run my tongue over my teeth in the front and in the back, I don't feel anything out of place. It's broken underneath the damn tooth and created a space for food to get stuck in between that makes it difficult to notice and I guess it's a breeding ground for bacteria to get inside the gum and grow....in addition to the nerve being exposed. So they're going to take the nerve out. They filled in the space that was broken with a some kind of filling and I'm due back for the procedure in two weeks. In the meantime, I get Vicodin (the good stuff!) to cope with the pain and an antibiotic.

Oh, my gosh, you really went through some killer pain. I am so glad they saw you. I would have been surprised if they did not. Glad the pain is now lessened for you.

Speaking of charley horse, I think the worst pain is getting one during sex, for more than just the physical reason...
