Do you have anything you think would be worth taking to antique road show? What is it and how did you get it?

Re: Antiques?
I have a few antiques that I could get some good money for, but they're not for sale.

Re: Antiques?
I don't need no stinkin road show..I do enjoy watching it from time to time. It is amazing to see some of the stuff people have. I really like to see the folks who bring something in and are told it is worth $100K and they hauled it over in the bed of their pickem up...

Re: Antiques?
A few pieces of jewelry that belonged to my mother.
I own a water-pitcher and base that belonged to my great-grandmother in the Azores in the late-1800's (so I'm told), but there's no date or signature on it. Brother passed it on to me this year.
An old Sambo's Restaurant tiger pin. It wouldn't rake in money but I'd expect some value from it. I worked at a Sambo's in '79 for one year.
This one isn't an antique but I really treasure the MC Hammer doll that my daughter owned in the 90s'. It looks exactly like him and I don't think it's a common item to find today.
I have an old deco'ish sideboard, probably from the 40's, that may have a little value (bought it at an auction), but don't think it'd draw much.
I own a lot of "old" stuff but most of it isn't worth anything.

Re: Antiques?
Nah, don't own anything older than me -Close but not quite yet an antique.
Years ago when I lived uptown in New Orleans, there was a sign on a store on Magazine street (lots of antique shops) that said "We Buy Junk - We Sell Antiques"
Always found that candor funny.

Re: Antiques?
I remember watching Billy Bob Thornton in a TV interview where he said he had a "phobia" against antiques. He shuddered, said that they give him the creeps that badly. Weird.

IDK Billy Bob's history but it could be very much like mine, where 'antique' meant an old family heirloom with history. When I was a kid visiting my grandmother in Mississippi I slept on an antique bed - belonged to my great great grandparents. Who knows how many of my relatives died on that bed. (It was likely the bed where I was conceived)
Some ppl just don't like to deal with that kind of real history. (altho more than likely any hospital bed has had someone expire on it).

Re: Antiques?
I have my great-grandmother's wedding ring and bedroom set, and those are probably the oldest things I own.
As an aside, and for lack of a better place to post this, although it falls in the category of "old stuff", does anyone out there still listen to cassette tapes and/or collect for nostalgia? I just did a clean-out in a cabinet and threw out about 150 self-recorded ones, but I have about 45 or so, store-bought tapes, various artists, all intact with the printed sleeves if anyone is interested. I know it's an obsolete form of music, but I hate to toss this batch, and will give them free to anyone who wants them. Here's a list of what's available, and PM me with your mailing info if interested. (Please note, I may not be able to respond right away--I'm working through until Monday, and I can't access this page from work, but if I can get in here, I will. If not, Tuesday is my next day when I can have any time here.)

Re: Antiques?
I wouldn't ever take anything to the road show program but have a very old desk and an old dictionary.
