A buddy of mine sometimes makes his own beer. It's OK but not up there with store quality.

Re: Homemade Wine/Alcohol
Home Brew was a family tradition since the prohibition (and in Mississippi some counties continued to be 'dry') I helped my aunt and later made a few batches with the simple family recipe for years. The biggest thing was to have a bottle capper and find thos large heavy Coke bottles. Sometimes regular beer bottles would explode as the formula was not as exact as with real breweries. When it settled it was a beautiful amber color and tasted great to me. It was my first beer, at room temp, when me and grampa went to the barn (where he stored it) to get the cows.
Later met a couple in the next county who were into making their own wine. (Where I learned what that biblical reference to 'drinking new wine' really meant).

Oh yeah, that. Our family knew someone with a still. My dad and I once drank some 140 proof moonshine. Poured a little on the table and lit it where it burned with a blue flame. However, it was surprisingly smoothe to the throat.

Re: Homemade Wine/Alcohol
Many years ago we decided to make beer. So we gathered the bottles cleaned them and proceeded. We took the cases of bottled beer down to the basement and stuck them in a corner to age properly as the recipe told us. Then one day I heard a pop just as I stepped on the stairs to the basement, in the following weeks there were many many more pope. Being afraid to go near them for fear of a bottle blowing up in my face I did nothing until one day the smell became very obvious. So I called my young son in and loaded him up with rocks, and told him to throw rocks at the beer bottles the kid was a dead eye dick with snowballs so I figured he could take care of the problem. When the bottles were all broken then I could clean up the stinking mess. We never attempted that again.

Yeah, had that experience. That's why I used those big Coke bottles, they were too thick to blow. Beer bottles are kinda thin.
