I have thought about it in the past, but just thought about it again tonight when a guy seemed to be following too close in a parking lot. I think I am going to look into it.

Have you ever taken a self-defence class?

If they'd ever bother having them here I would.

Having been in the mental health world (met my wife at the psychiatric hospital, crazy huh?)I have had years of NCI / CPI training. May be not real self defense, but I have taken down some really big people without throwing a punch.

I'm really disappointed. It seems around here the basic self defence classes are not available. I have only been able to find any through karate schools and I don't want a two month course. So, I guess I'll remain defenseless for the time being!

When I was a cop I never worried about self-defense.

A cop made a traffic stop on an elderly lady for speeding.
He asked for her driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance.
The lady took out the required information and handed it to the cop.
In with the cards he was somewhat surprised (due to her advanced age)
to see she had a conceal carry permit. The officer looked at her and ask if
she had a weapon in her possession at this time.
She responded that she indeed had a .45 automatic in her glove box.
Something---body language, or the way she said it---made him want
to ask if she had any other firearms. She did admit to also having
a 9mm Glock in her center console. Now the cop had to ask one more
time if that was all. She responded once again that she did have
just one more, a .38 special in her purse. When he asked her what
was she so afraid of.
She looked him right in the eye and said, "Not a damn thing!"

Nope. Our LAME Y is not offering it, though I am not surprised.

I haven't but wouldn't mind taking some shooting lessons though. That could be fun.

I take kickboxing normally once a week, sometimes I squeeze in two. Unfortunately we're not hitting anything solid, but at least I have the confidence to know I can do so with proper form, which is half the battle.

I have always been so afraid to do kickboxing. I worry that I will look like a dumb ass! I am not super-coordinated!

I was worried, too. I used to stay on the elliptical and watch the class wondering if I could do it! Finally my friend made me come out on the floor and...well...I won't lie, I looked a bit awkward the first time LOL. It took a few classes to really get my form right, it helps to practice at home in the mirror so it doesn't feel so foreign. You just have to get out there and wing it!
(and stick towards the back LOL)
