Are you afraid to report an accident and have the company file a claim, or do you put it thru the company?

My friend caused $3000 to his car the other night in the snow and is apprehensive about turning it in because he fears a rate increase. Is this something that you consider? or do you turn in your claims?

If I need it fixed, I'm turning it in. That's what I pay insurance for. It's a fucking pain because they make you go through hurdles to get it paid though. It really depends on what it is. A small dent or fender bender I can do myself or I can live with, I won't bother....but major damage, they're paying.

If the claim is less than the deductible I probably wouldn't report it.

I usually have a high collision deductible. I had done auto bump and paint for 10 years and figure most damage I can fix myself.

I have only made one insurance claim so far and that was for my fence in my backyard getting damaged due to the storm we had last march. My homeowner policy rates didn't go up.
