Let's say that you live to be at least 93 years old, what do you see yourself doing at that age?
Every day I have to go over and help take care of my grandmother and it drives me nuts. Here is a woman perfectly healthy, perfectly mobile, not a single thing wrong with her health, and she spends her days sitting in the living room, only moving when we bring her 3 meals. Half the time the television set isn't even on, she just sits there doing nothing. She's let her mind rot away because she could never be bothered to do anything that wasn't fun and now that she's old and she can't drink anymore she's basically just given up on everything; if anything ever passes through her brain it's only new ways that she can make us miserable because anything that can make more work for us, that's the only thing she'll do. And I just cannot imagine ALLOWING myself, making the conscious decision to live like that for the rest of my days. When I'm 93, I'm going to be doing things. I don't know what, but I'll find something to do. I've seen 90 year olds who still drive, still ride motorcycles, women over 100 who still work chainsaws and dig ditches and trim hedges. Last year the paper had an article about a 104 year old woman who is STILL a concert pianist, so if they can do all that, when I'm 93 I'm going to be busy and have me a good time.
