I didn't work out to any of his videos. I think he is a complex man. I read his autobiography. It was pretty interesting.

Re: Richard Simmons
My mom really likes him. She got all his tapes several years ago and we started doing them...and regardless of what people think of him I do think it's amazing at the end they bring out all these people and show how much weight they've lost. And usually the biggest people are also the biggest losers, like there are some, must be 250, 300 pounds, and they LOST 250 pounds doing his exercises, there was one time where a very skinny man had lost like 400 pounds.
So despite all the jokes people make, he obviously does some good for people and he cares about these people because he has been there and done that and knows what it's like. And aerobics, are supposed to be like one of the greatest kinds of exercises you can do, they're relatively easy, usually there's no equipment required, so I think in that regard his videos are very helpful for people who need to lose weight. It's like Hal Sparks said when they talked about him on I Love the 80s, you see a huge body builder going 'you can do it!' you're like 'no I can't', but you see a guy like Richard Simmons and you think 'I could probably pull it off',

He even got that one guy who was really, really big to slim way down. The guy was in the very high hudreds. Then he gained it back. I recall watching a show about it. I think it must be very motivational.

Re: Richard Simmons
He seems fun and caring, but I'm not at all impressed by his body/looks. That makes me not at all interested in his workout videos. If someone going to be an exercise guru, I think their body should be noticeably chiseled and I can't tell that his is.

He seems to really care & be genuine. That said, I will NEVER get that image of him naked in a huge salad bowl purged from my brain. Some warning would have been nice.

The first time I ever saw or even heard of him was on General Hospital. He seems like a decent guy. But I'll still stick with Bob Harper.

Re: Richard Simmons
i think he has tons of energy... and would love it if he could bottle it. he really cares about people but... when he uses exaggerated motions and cries it turns me off.
good for him and all he has accomplished, and good to the people that he helps---but my mom did try his "deal a meal" plan where you move this cards from one pocket to the next... when you are done moving cards, you are done eating for the day. it worked for a little while.

I never heard of that one, and in truth I wouldn't try his 'diet' plans either, I know that's not the right word because he's talked about how in breaking down the word the first part you get is DIE. Like Garfield said, you know what a diet is? It's DIE with a T on it!

I remember his "Deal a Meal" and "Sweatin' to the Oldies" commercials. His workouts seem more geared to an older overweight set. The demographic of people who have spent years, maybe decades, being inactive and ANY sort of movement would be an improvement.

My mother had me doing them with her when I was 11 and I lost weight, and I'd always been an active child.
