Do you think the family of the deceased should have the right to override that persons decision to be an organ donor?

Not override the wishes of the deceased, no. Those wishes should be respected whether the family agrees or not.

I think the person's wishes should be respected. However, if they have not signed a DNR or made their wishes for extraordinary measures known, then I support the family's right to keep the person alive until they are ready to let go. I am tired of families being bullied and guilted by organ-hungry doctors into giving up their loved one's organs before they are ready, just because the person signed a donor card. They'll let go when they are ready and if the person signed a donor card, then you can have the organs.

Agree with FM If somebody wants to be a donor then THEY better sign off on it officially otherwise the family has the right to veto it (even if I think they shouldnt).

Depends. If there is a DNR in place, then they should honor it. If not, then they should be able to make decisions accordingly.

Re: Organ donations and family
I have the words "Organ Donor" on my license for a reason---I have no use for my organs once i am gone, and could help someone to have a better life! I would be pissed off if my family went against those wishes.. and would find a way to haunt them! lol

The issue here, is preparation at the doctor's end for immediate use.
A friend of mine whose boyfriend died took great offense because the family was approached "so soon" with the organ donor request. But, like I told her, the donated organ HAS to be procured immediately ~ it cannot wait inside the cadaver. She understood after I explained it to her. But because of the nature of the situation there is never a 'good' time to bring it up to the families.
