THE REVOLUTION Panned By Critics, Flops In Ratings On Opening Day

THE REVOLUTION has been panned by critics, and was a flop on opening day according to TV Media Insights:

According to weighted results for the 56 metered markets on
January 16, new talker THE REVOLUTION, hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim
Gunn, Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton and celebrity
trainer Harley Pasternak, opened with a sluggish 1.9 rating/5 share.
Comparably, that declined from the lead-in average (2.4/ 6) by 21
percent in rating, and year-ago time period occupant ONE LIFE TO LIVE
(2.3/ 6) by 17 percent.

Below is one of our favorite reviews of the show that replaced beloved soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE:

Chicago Sun-Times: ‘The Revolution’ unfortunately will be televised
"What it actually delivers — besides one long Macy’s commercial — is a
bunch of platitudes, lame tips ('embrace color'), television’s
millionth makeover and advice from the no-duh handbook."

Of course it's all about the bottom line for ABC who feel they can make
as much or more money by putting out a cheaper show with lower ratings.
Time will tell on the profit margins but there's little doubt THE
REVOLUTION will develop the type of brand loyalty ONE LIFE generated
since 1968.

It flopped tuesday even lower!! Did ABC really think that OLTL viewers were going to watch this crap. I know they could care less about what the fans want but I hope their whole afternoon schedule goes in the toilet!


Yes, two days of overnight data is still not an adequate determination of the success, or non-success, or any new series. But based on the weighted results in the 56-metered markets on Tuesday, new ABC daytime talker The Revolution faces a steep uphill battle. The Revolution, hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, dipped to a 1.6 rating/5 share according to Nielsen. Comparably (and with weaker lead-in support), that was down by 16 percent from Monday’s already disappointing 1.9/ 5. It also declined by 16 percent from the lead-in average (1.9/ 6). And, more importantly, The Revolution was off by a hefty 30 percent from year-ago occupant One Life to Live (2.3/ 6). In a nutshell:

I don't know who ABC thought was going to watch that show. I guess their 'research' that they supposedly conducted that told them that no one wants scripted drama in the daytime anymore, but rather cooking and health shows, failed them.

It's what ABC gets for being callous cheapskates.

This should come as no surprise. Everyone knew it was going to flop. It all it is a bunch of psychobabble. Even if it hadn't replaced OLTL and came on at some other time, it's not the type of show most people watch.
