What a haul Empty What a haul

The library had its annual Groundhog Day book sale today and I went with $70 because I usually spend near $100 at these things, it's 50 cents a paperback, $1 a hardback, 50 cents for a VHS, $1 for a DVD, etc. I got a lot of stuff but only had to spend $24.50, in movies I got Hook, The Neverending Story, All dogs go to Heaven, Rock-A-Doodle (never seen it but if you had the old All Dogs go to Heaven tape, they always advertised it and I always wanted to see it), Victor Borge Comedy Moments, Scooby Doo meets Batman (the 2 New Scooby Doo movie cartoons from the 70s with Batman and Robin), and an I Love Lucy tape covering her pregnancy and birth (sending that to an old friend). And in books I got (among other things) Animal Farm, The Invisible Man, The War of the Worlds, one of the Dinotopia books, a couple of Murder She Wrotes (for my mother), Neverwhere, volume 7 of the Chronicles of Narnia, a couple of books on the Civil War, 3-4 Sherlock Holmes books, a couple mystery collections, 3 Calvin and Hobbs comic books, and about a dozen various teenaged detective stories.

Considering they only had 2 weeks to get all the donations together and it's only been 4 months since the last sale, I'd say they had a pretty good selection.

I know the feeling. I'm about to do my annual cd shopping spree at a favorite music store in East Portland (one of the few still selling cds, and it's a huge store). What happens is that my husband always gives me a generous gift-certificate for Christmas, then I save a little more for the next couple of months. I go to the store when I'm ready with a long list of music I want. Always pick up a nice stack. It may or may not include some used ones.

It's fun. So I know the feeling of leaving with an armload of the stuff you love.

I did that last weekend at the local Blockbuster that was going out of business. All DVDs for $3.

Got 20 that day and took my daughter shopping the next and she got about 30 (plus another 5 for me).

Got a few iffy ones just to see if they are worth keeping such as Jennifer's Body (which I will now give to my grandsons).

Super, I would adore to take you to my best used book place. Twenty five cents for paperback and fifty for hard cover. When I go, I have to tell myself no. I know that when I move I will regret owning all those book vs. just borrowing them from the library. But I did go last Saturday and got a ton of books for me and my step-daughter's classroom and spent less than $10.

Glad you got so many great finds.
