If you had a daughter who was sixteen or seventeen years old and became pregnant, would you push for she and the baby's father to marry?

No, but that boy would be paying child support. We would take that to the courts.

Or his parents. Where I live, if a boy gets a girl pregnant and he's a minor, his PARENTS pay the child support until he's 18.

Absolutely not! However, I drilled it into my daughter time and time again that if she found herself pregnant she would have to figure out how to take care of it, because I have to work. Nor did I want to raise another child. This was one of the rare situations where I think I instilled the fear into her.

I would never push a teenager into what is sure to be a miserable marriage that'd be over by the time they're 28.

Bingo, there's no shame in being a single parent, and sometimes that truly is for the best. Unlike my mother I firmly believe NO father IS better than a BAD father.

No job, no house, no money, no education. Exactly who gonna be taking care of it? We can talk, but she gonna realized I'm right in the end.

Or she may run off and marry the fool who knocked her up instead. Never underestimate the will of the teenager still in the I-know-everything stage.

This reminds me of the time when my daughter brought a date over to the house, some quiet geeky boy with no personality. And they just happened to pop in while 'The Mr.' was cleaning out his rifle. The kid stood there looking as if he was ready to poop his pants. I loved it!

I wouldnt push for it per-se but I would let her know its an option, and make her very aware of the realities of what she's getting into if she chooses to go ahead with the pregnancy.Nystyle709 wrote:I'd push for that abortion.

Re: If your teenage daughter became pregnant would you push for her and the father to marry?
I would take her to the doctor, the adoption agency, and to a home for teen mothers. I would let her consider her options, but would insist that she spend time with some teen mothers so that she see first hand what things would be like. Then I would walk through the store with her adding up all the costs for baby stuff, formula, diapers--- and explain that this is just "start up" money!
There is no way that i would encourage her to marry.
When I was 14 I brought home my first real boyfriend. My bro in law told him and I quote "If she ever finds out what a dick looks like before she is married, I'm going to take that dick and nail it to a tree stump with a rail road spike. Then I am setting the tree stump on fire and handing the guy a machete. Either he burns to death, or cuts his dick off--- the choice is his." I stayed with this boy for another 2 yrs... but he never laid a hand on me!

Good for him, sounds like something a real brother would say though instead of an in-law.
But as to the first part about options...here's what I'm thinking, why not go through all this with them BEFORE they get pregnant so they have a good idea what they'll be setting themselves up for if they decide to have sex before they're ready? An ounce of prevention and all that.

So? That'll be her dumb ass. The possibility of that happening will have nothing to do with my advising to get an abortion. Having baby at 16 is just not a good decision.
