Calling Your Parents Friends "Uncle...." or "Aunt...."

Did you ever call any of your parents friends "Uncle...." or "Aunt...."?

No to both.

No, just called my uncles & aunts that and only my neices & nephews call me uncle.

I have been called Papi by kids in the bario who don't even know me.

Yep. When I was brought up, my parents made me call all of their friends "aunt" and "uncle."

No. With the exception of one or two, I don't even address my real uncles and aunts by those prefixes.

I called my grandfathers cousin Aunt, I didn't call my actually aunts and uncles that. I called them by their first names since they were all more like my brothers and sisters. I taught my children to call them aunt and uncle, and no one else. I don't believe in making up relatives. I think it confuses kids.

my grandmother made us call almost everyone she knew "aunt"..... growing up, and even now.. i don't know for sure how most of her family was related to each other. She made me call someone "uncle" and i found out recently that he had a picture of his grandfather, who was actually my great great grandfather.... i wish i would have known cause i would have asked for a copy of the pics.

my mom on the other hand did not want us calling anyone outside the family by "family" titles.

However, all the kids in my neighborhood call me aunt, always have... they are now in their late 20s and still call me aunt.
