It's on both sides. So far I'm the healthiest one.

Re: Diabetics
My grandfather on my dad's side had it later in life. We know a few people who have it, mostly women.

Re: Diabetics
I know a shipload of diabetics.
An uncle died from complications of diabetes, but he's the only one I know of who's had it. His sister (my mother) didn't, and it isn't on my dad's side at all.

Re: Diabetics
Yes and yes. My father is a diabetic, his grandmother was a diabetic, my mother's grandmother was a diabetic. I wouldn't say it runs in the family, but it's definitely been in mine. My ex boyfriend also died from diabetes. He didn't even know it. He went into a diabetic coma and never came out.

Re: Diabetics
A friend who is a family friend is diabetic. It is most likely due to her weight, though, as she is extremely obese. She seems to still eat sugary stuff so I am not sure how her regimen works.

Re: Diabetics
My husband, there wasn't any in either family, and he wasn't fat. But there it is. We are careful about his diet, it isn't hard once you understand the balance.

Re: Diabetics
I once lived with a diabetic woman back in the '70s in sort of a communal arrangement. She was insulin dependent. We had to keep milk available in the fridge, and snacks. I even shot her up once. (It helps to not be a young woman who likes to party and drink)
