If you came home to your house clearly broken into, would you enter or call the police first?

It is always advised to call the police in case the perp is still there. In my case, one room is pretty easy to scope out.

I have been awakened in the night by a burglar in my bedroom. That is discomfiting. Luckily he bolted when I woke up and I chased him out the back door.

I wouldn't feel like maybe waiting an hour for them to make the 3 block trip, I'd go in and check it out.

Well, I've a hunch that I would be inclined to enter the house. But if I'm with my husband he would hold me back and call the cops first.

Although I've seen some cops chicken out in a situation like this. We got a call that his business got broken into, so we got dressed in a hurry and he sped 20 miles to get there and made it before the cops did. When the cops arrived they refused to scout the place "in case the burglar was still in there". So my husband came back to the car to retrieve his own gun (he has a permit) and go inside while the cops stood out with their hands on their hips. I could not believe what I was witnessing.

And why do they think THEY'RE given guns with the job? Anytime people wonder why nobody likes the police, they need to hear stuff like this and THEN tell us they do their job and protect the public.

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!

To answer the question, I hope I would call the cops first and then hide in the bushes with my cell phone ready to take pictures of anyone who wasn't on the lease. That's assuming I didn't see either my wife or daughter's car.

It's happened before. I would go in while I called the police.

I'd probably call the police as I entered.

If I was by myself, I'll be calling the cops first.
