How long could you stay at a miserable job?

My door-to-door sales job lasted 3 days. I lasted a month working on an oil rig - wasn't quite miserable, but just not me. For most of my work life, one or two years was my job stay - usually to move around or travel.
Now I've been here for 12 years and tho not really miserable, I don't enjoy it. (Ya see where I am right now). But, I am stuck here (part of the misery is just realizing that) because in this economy at my age, there are NO prospects for another job at the money I am making.

Well, I would try not to quit until I had something lined up. Though my first job after moving to my city made me quit when I was transfered to another facility. I could not stand it and lasted a week. I had nothing lined up, but found something as in those days a youngster could take that risk.
