What stands out in your mind as a time you were either more brave than you usually are, or went out on a limb for someone who was in dire straits?

When this thread started, I could not recal anything I ever did as particularly heroic.
However, on a couple of occasions I may have saved someone's life.
When I was a cop in New Orleans, a distraught man was about to jump into the river. (The Mississippi in N.O. is not a swimmable place - the current is often 40MPH) I caught him and wrestled him to the ground before he made it off the pier.
Then there was the psych hospital, where intuitively I felt I should go check on this patient who was too quiet in his room. Opened the door and there he was hanging by a bedsheet from the light fixture - still kicking. I grabbed his legs and lifted up while yelling for the nurse. We got him down - he was unconscious but later revived.
Also, same hospital, a large male patient had ripped a piece of Plexiglas off the window and it had broken into a pointed shard. He was holding a small patient with one arm had the shard raised above his head threatening to make a stab when I grabbed his arm (stupid move - he coulda dropped the other guy, switched the dagger to the other hand and stabbed me but my coworkers were on the rest of him.)
IDK if it was heroic. I was just working and responded as best I could to a situation.

When I was a teenager working at Bradlees (remember that store?), I worked in the fitting room. A very large "woman" entered, and after a long time, almost a half hour--- i peaked in to check on "her". I found her laying on the floor with most of her clothing off. She had implants, but was pre-op as she still had her lower male extremities.
I called for someone to call 911 and started CPR on her that i learned in health class.... the dispatcher was put on the phone with me, and they asked for her age, and condition... then asked "Sex?" I stated "questionable" lol it was kinda funny come on.
I saved her life... and when she got out of the hospital, she came back and gave me $100. She said that she wished she could give me so much more, but that is all she could afford. She insisted to management that i get a raise too!
