I was noticing that the numbers of people in non-commital relationships seems to be increasing. It seems that people are casually dating more and having less serious relationships altogether.

Why is our view points on relationships changing??

I think the divorce rate freaks people out and more people are attracted to the thought of how easy a break up is when it is not a legal union.

More and more, it seems we lean toward the easiest route. Non-committal relationships are representative of that.

Also, marriage so far is an exclusive club for one man and one woman. There are lots of same-gender, committed relationships that have endured for decades but officially go unrecognized.

After my last marriage I said that even if I had another relationship with a woman, I would not marry out of solidarity with those relationships that are denied that option.

So, marriage is not an indicator of a committed relationship. Just an illusion for those who believe in archaic constructs.

To be honest, I wasn't aware of a new trend. If there is one, Shrugs (Oh well…)

Because people want to have their cake and eat it too. Commitment scares people.....literally. Think about anything you have to sign a contract for or give your word to do. You're always going to second guess yourself or think really hard about committing to it before you actually do. And since being in relationship isn't something that necessary in life, it's easy to not want to commit to one.

I think people have lower attention spans these days; combine that with more options, via things like online communications, and non-committal relationships surge.
