What number of kids do you think is too many for someone? I ask this because I just found out that my wife's uncle has nineteen kids. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Re: How many children is too many?
As long as they can provide for their care in all ways, whatever. But I think people need to be aware that the planet is already overpopulated & it's unfair to the rest of the kids to have to give up their own childhood & teenage experiences to play babysitter to the younger siblings. Not namin' any names. I'm just sayin'
Raising kids is expensive & time consuming. People have to be realistic.

Third world countries where there are 20 wives to each man and no birth control are overpopulated, not this country.

19 kids!
Not sure how many is too many, whatever floats your boat and able to care for them is what matters.

I guess its up to the individuals involved how many kids they can handle. My Mama had 7 and my Grandmother had 16 so who is to say how many is too much.

Re: How many children is too many?
In previous centuries and to the middle of the 20th, the world was agrarian and having a lot of sons guaranteed care in your old age.
The world has changed since then, so now having a dozen kids is thotless and selfish. It is not just a matter of parents supporting all their kids, but a matter of the planet not being able to support the human population that has infested it.
This orb is limited in size and resources and all of our problems today, not counting religious intolerance, is due to pollution and lack of resources such as arable land and water. Forget oil, the CIA has determined that wars in the future, just like Sci-Fi predicted will be waged over drinkable water.
So, how many children? IDK. Quit breeding. Pick up some of the strays that need parents and raise them. Whatever happened to the idea of Zero Population Growth from the '70s.

Re: How many children is too many?
At most, I would only have 4 kids. I agree with CeCe on the older kids having to be constant babysitters in large families and I think know the family CeCe is talking about. There is a dark side to some large families.
I agree with others, the world is very overpopulated.

Basically as many as you can care for. If you want to be able to field a baseball team including the starting 9, pitchers and bench players, knock yourself up. Uh, out. Ain't for me. That's what contraception is for.

More than 6....and that would be way too many for me, but seriously, if you got more than 6 kids, I think that's borderline crazy.

All I know is that "4" would be my absolute limit. Thankfully I didn't start making babies in my early 20's, so I can't even see that number happening.

Re: How many children is too many?
I don't believe in "too many." I believe that you shouldn't go using IVF to have as many kids as your body can make without a father to raise them. I also believe that if you got a lot of kids already, you shouldn't be going out of your way to try to force your body to make another. However, I don't believe in doing anything to stop the kids from naturally coming. If God gives you 15+, so be it. I know a family who had 16 (not all of them were ever living at home at the same time) and that wasn't including 4 miscarriages. And you know what? They all seemed to turn out pretty good. They made it. The idea of "too many" kids is a funny exception to our "you shouldn't judge" culture. (Well, that culture is a lie anyway, but we think we adhere to it.)

Re: How many children is too many?
I don't know how many is too many, I do know that people like the Duggars don't actually take care of all those kids, their older children take care of the younger ones. We had friends who had 9 and that was about 5or6 too many, again no one was actually raising the individual child . Besides their house was always sticky, a chart of the wall designated which chores were done by which kid, and so nothing was done very well. Nice people but way too many kids obviously.

That's the one thing that pisses me off about them. I've noticed that they have good looking daughters. Those girls (and boys) will possibly never reach their full potential or tap into any interests that could benefit them or even change the world because they're busy taking care of their younger siblings. One has to cook, the other has to do the laundry, the other has to clean, it's the others' turn to babysit, etc and it's not just simple chores...it's like if they don't do it, the house will fall apart. I don't think is fair at all. They need to enjoy being kids.
