I am very disappointed too because as long as she was in that coma, I held out hope that she mght someday come back. But if they kill her off, she will not return.

I don't think that it really necessary to go such a drab route. Evangeline could have woken up and been said to have moved somewhere far away for rehabilitation. I get that they have no interest in bringing the character back, but killing her off is too extreme.
