Just up early this morning, checking news on the Web when I came across this very sad piece. I cannot believe that in the 21st century, ppl are this ignorant of what causes carbon monoxide. From the location these are likely immigrants from Centro America, and yet they shouldn't be campesino field hands if they had a generator.
IDK where our education is lacking. In our European/North American culture any number of dramas from the 40s on have depicted suicide by running a car engine in a closed garage. Every year during hurrican season, the news says not to put generators too close to the house. So why would someone run one in the house?
I am saddened by this story, yet realistically see it as some kind of Darwinian natural order. No one died yet. Hope there isn't too much physical damage to them, but how stupid can you be?

A family of five in southwest Miami-Dade County was transported to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning on Thursday, Fire Rescue said.
The condition of the two adults and three children wasn't immediately known.
Fire Rescue said the family lost power and put their portable generator in their home with the windows closed.
Around 4 a.m., the mother woke up with a severe headache and went to a neighbor for help. The neighbor called 911. The children were lethargic and the husband had severe symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, but he was conscious.
No other information was immediately known.
