Emotionally or physically, how well do you mask pain? Do others know when something isn't right with you, or do you camouflage it?

I think I have a high pain tolerance. As you get older there seems to always be some ache, probably arthritic, that you just live with. Sometimes you mention it (mostly to other older ppl who have the same chronic off-&-on aches).

My sisters always know when something is wrong with me. Other than that I can mask it in front of friends.

For a few years after Brenda died I could have sobbing moments watching some movies at home and was really glad I wasn't in a theater. Maybe some filter kicks in while in public.

I guess I have lived all my life with the attitude of "never let them see you cry". The one time something was seriously wrong with me there was no pain but everyone but me knew something was wrong. I very nearly bled to death from a bleeding ulcer I didn't know there was a problem until I couldn't stand up any more. Everyone else kept asking me if I was alright.

There is not blanket answer for me. If I am in a lot of physical pain I will rant and vent to my family but not to just anyone willing to listen. (gotta love those types of people!)

Emotional pain is more difficult. I am a crier. I just can't help it. When I am really sad, my eyes just fill with tears and I have yet to find a way around it. I really wish I wasn't like that because it is so embarrassing sometimes.
