Should prostitution be legalized?

I think it should be. The only thing that makes prostitution base IMO are the street pimps. If they can be eliminated and instead have sex workers work in a facility (like a brothel) with in and out clients, or as escorts, that to me is 100% acceptable. I see nothing wrong with it honestly. Like I said it's just the seedy street atmosphere that screws it all up!

Why not legalize it? You can recieve money from strangers, and you can have sex with strangers, but you cant have sex with strangers for money?? It makes no sense at all. Two consenting adults, I don't see the problem. So long as you are allowed to pay for sex with anything other than money (expensive date) but it requires money to achieve then it makes no sense to make an issue about removing the middle man as it were.

Many people make a distinction between legal and illegal acts. Some things they would accept if legal but since they aren't legal they think it's not morally right. Which means they don't really have problem with the act, only the legality of it. So make it legal. You want to do it then do it. You don't want anything to do with it then don't do it.

Two adults having sex for money affects no one else. I mean no worse than having sex for any other reason.

Definitely, it should. Tax the heck out of it, as are the other vices like cigarettes and alcohol!

I have mixed emotions. I believe in America atleast we are too obsessed with sex. It would just give people an excuse to abuse it, more people would be unfaithful. I think it would lead to chaos.

I don't like the idea of it being legally permissible to solicit prostitutes...and I would love to know what insurance company would cover a "professional" trick.

Might as well. Doesn't make sense that it is illegal to charge for something that can be given away for free.

I don't think so merely cause I believe the harm would outdo the good.

Although I dislike that prostitution happens based on the possibility of the spread of disease, I had to say for legalization. These street workers sometimes have a pitiful existence, and they always put their lives at risk to complete strangers.

By legalizing prostitution, and with the appropriate laws enacted, these sex-workers can hopefully get access to protection under the law and thus not exploited by ruthless pimps, and maybe get healthcare as they are bound to pick up infections some way or another. It's for their protection as well as the clients they serve...

Of course it should be legalized. I agree, it should be done in a controlled environment and not on the street. It would definitely get of of the girls and guys off of the streets. I say go for it.

I think it should definitely be legalized. As long as the man or woman (and their clients) are 18+, I don't see a problem with it. They're adults, they can do what they want and both adults are consenting, so yeah, I don't have a problem with it. It's the oldest profession in the world. And as one poster mentioned above, it is already indirectly legal - particularly in Hollywood!

I guess I"m on the fence - there are pros and cons both ways. I guess it would depend on just what legalizing it meant - would that mean johns would be required to provide health care and benefits and so forth? Or would it just mean an excuse for the johns to take advantage of the women?

Prostitutes could easily be diagnosed with Aids/STD by having sex with different men and being paid into doing so. I rather scrub a toilet than sell my body to strangers for more than a night!!!!!

I'm not a fan of street walkers and pimps are the scourges of society. But I'm all for escorting and "adult entertainment" (and if the performers want to take it up a notch by performing sexual acts on "clients", then hey.
