Do you enjoy camping???
Am watching a show on TV where a killer is lurking in the woods where families camp. Do you enjoy camping? do u ever feel uncomfortable in the woods? With no cellphone reception, do u ever get spooked?

I have only ever camped at moto tracks. Sometimes very primitive camping in out-of-state events...I despise primitive camping. I much rather some minimal creature comforts via the race rig. Sometimes it is just too costly to bring the rig.

I don't have to camp; I live where there's a bunch of woods and little cell phone reception. That being said, I sleep pretty good at night

Re: Do you enjoy camping???
Used to but haven't done it since the 90's. Sometimes I miss it a little bit but never much. My favorite way to camp was at state parks at the coast.

Re: Do you enjoy camping???
I have camped since the age of 4. My parents would take us into the woods of Northern Michigan 4-5 times a year. My g-parents had a cabin on Lake Huron and we would spend weeks there each summer. During the day my g-father would load us into his 1953 Willys Jeep and we would spend the day driving the two-tracks just outside Oscoda.

I don't mind a hike through the woods, but "camping" to me is a night at the Sheraton. I don't pay a mortgage to sleep in a tent and I get bored too easily if I don't constantly have something to do.

Re: Do you enjoy camping???
Interesting that tech addicts talk about cell fone reception while camping out. Most of my camping was done before cell fones and the idea that one MUST be connected 24/7.
I camped out as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Maryland and a Camporee at Gettysburg in 1967. Of course I didn't sleep well on the ground in a sleeping bag, but that was part of the experience.
Do I Look Like I Slept Well?
Now, how do we define 'camping?' I have lived in a thatched roof cabana in Guatemala with no running water and cooked on an open fire. Also did that in a similar cabin in the woods in Mississippi, getting water from a drop bucket well and cooking on an open fire. Pretty much like camping to me, except the cabin was more waterproof than a tent.
Traveling thru Mexico we camped in a coconut grove near Tulum in the Quintana Roo. No tent, just tied our hammocks to a couple of trees and cooked arroz y frijoles on a campfire of coconut husks. It was right on the coast and we could hear the ocean at night.
So, yeah I have camped out, sometimes out of necessity. Lots of ppl in the world live like that.

We haven't since the kids got tired of it but for more than a few years we would go around Labor Day. Nothing hard core but we did sleep in tents. We still laugh at some of the shit we did.

Re: Do you enjoy camping???
Shale... its not so much a need to "feel connected"... it is more of an emergency situation thing. As a woman, if me and my ficticious husband took our imaginary kids out in the middle of nowhere... anything is possible.... not just a killer, but if the hubby fell and broke his leg, the kids got lost... etc.

Nah. I remember when I was a kid, some friends and I called ourselves 'camping' out in one their backyards; an hour later, we were back in the house.
