Food Does anyone have a pizza baking stone?

Post by RedBedroom Wed May 09, 2012 8:48 pm

My friend gave me one and I used it yesterday. It is the Pampered Chef one. I looked online for directions on how to use it. It seems there is great controversy over if it should be preheated or not. Some say it should, others say it is not and that Pampered Chef says not to.

So, I tried it with frozen pizza yesterday (not preheated) and it took twice the time for the pizza to get cooked. The brand I was making takes 12 minutes always and this time it was in for 22 mins. and was still not golden brown on the top.

We have one of those from P.C. Works fine. IIRC the directions said not to use it w/o food on it. We don't do frozen pizza but I use it to warm up left over pizza and it does a good job.

That's a good tip, Alan. I will use it for warming up leftover pizza. We do a lot of frozen pizza and I think it is a bust for that purpose unless you preheat the stone. From what I read, people think P.C. recommends against it because a frozen pizza may cause it to crack if the stone is hot.

    No.

And did the frozen pizza taste any better on the stone rather than the oven?

It didn't, Cheaps. In fact, I think it was a bit soggy.
