Absolutely not. Even if the sound is off the light is distracting as hell.

Re: Texting in movie theaters
If it was bothering me I would ask them to stop. If they didn't want to be considerate, well...I can fart practically at will. But how big a fool do you have to be to pay what they're charging for a movie and sit there and pay attention to your fucking phone instead of the movie you came to see?

They should be taken out in the lobby (so the screaming does not interrupt the movie) and have their thumbs cut off.

I pretty much text until the movie actually comes, then I will check every now and then to see if I get any important messages.

The theater here will throw you out. They have a zero tolerance policy.

One theater out of how many? LOL. I'll still text. They didn't pay for this phone.

The best one in the area started it & most have followed suit. People are informed before the movie that if caught using the phone they will leave without a refund & will get an escort if necessary. It's turned the place into a better behaved crowd. I just wish the woman who sat in front of me at The Avengers had only used half a bottle of perfume instead of the entire thing but

Texting in theaters doesn't bother me actually. It's better than them having a verbal conversation.

What if it's an emergency or something important? LOL, this ain't freaking high school. If someone complained of a person using the phone and it was distracting....THEN you should escort them out. If not, then they should mind their business. If you were minding your business, you wouldn't have seen said person using a phone.

If it's an emergency or something important you should be on the way out of the theater on your own.

I agree, when I'm in the theater, other than the few times I look down at my phone, my focus and attention is on the movie straight ahead of me.

Re: Texting in movie theaters
Some ppl actually have peripheral vision and a little light goes a long way in a darkened theater. Very distracting having little glowing lights in front of you while watching a dark scene in the movie.
Why the fuck can't cell fone and text addicts just stay home and text and talk away. Go to the movie to watch the movie not to look down at your fone a few times. Believe me, having lived for over half a century without the gadgets, there is NO pressing need not to turn the damn things off for a couple of hours.
And yes, at the theater that I attend, there will be a grumpy old man to tell you proper courtesy about sharing a theater with others who are there to watch the movie - and he will go out and get management to do something about it.
If that seems somewhat a rant, it was. I cannot believe how inconsiderate ppl are in this world. Sorry to say it, but it shows a lack of class.

Re: Texting in movie theaters
LOL. Ya know, it's this whole elitist attitude is why people do what they do anyway. Kinda like how Bloomberg wants people to quit smoking, so he bans smoking in bars and parks. He wants people to ride bikes, so he build 1000 bikes lanes. In case most of you didn't know....they background light AND the sound on a cell phone can be turned off. So can the ringer. If someone is using phone that has these features, THEN I can understand another person being distracted by it. If someone is talking on a phone in the movie theater, then I can see you being annoyed by it. But if you can't see it or hear it, then why the fuck does it bother you that someone is using their phone? It has nothing to do with "oh, can't you live without your phone for a few hours?" That is so not the point. Why should someone having to inconvenience themselves to make things tolerable for you? Who cares if someone is looking at their phone 100 times during a movie. That's none of your damn business. Pay attention to the movie! It's a movie theater. Has a 100 in screen (in which the light that emits from it is more blinding) and surround sound that'll blow your damn eardrums if you're not careful, but you're over here worried about someone else's phone. Keep your eyes in front of you.
