We know that FOX News is a right-wing news channel, and prides itself on it. On the other hand, would you consider CNN to be the left-equivalent to it, or do you consider it more neutral?

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
CNN reports the news fairly. FOX doesn't. That's the big difference between the two....rather than it just being about left wing and right wing.

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
CNN is very much a leftist network. Very leftist. Not THE leftist, but leftist. Fox News is more like a right-of-center network, but it's nowhere near as right-wing as the left wing loonies seem to think.
Of course, Fox is THE only major news network that isn't leftist. CBS, ABC, NBC (and the cable extensions), and CNN are all leftist networks. That kinda makes all the flack about Fox News kinda funny. The left 1% runs most of the news and Hollywood and they then bitch about Fox News. lol They'z like Potter! (No, not Harry! )

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
I would watch Fox before CNN. Usually if I watch the 10 o'clock news its on the WB channel 11 with Jody Applegate. In the early evening I watch ABC Eyewitness news.

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
CNN is not "very leftist" like almost every extreme rightist claims. And most of the available statistics out there would dispel that notion. If you were to compare the guests for example on a typical Fox News program vs the typical CNN program, you'll find that the number of guests who identify as liberal or democrats on Fox News is practically non-existent. By contrast, a small majority of guests that appear on CNN are actually conservatives.
Special Report with Brit Hume on FOX, and Wolf Blitzer Reports on CNN both feature Republican guests more often than Democratic guests. However, while the number of Republicans only slightly edges the number of Democrats on the Wolf Blitzer's show, Brit Hume favored Republicans by a margin of about 8:1. FOX News featured white guests 93 percent of the time and male guests 91 percent of the time. According to the Nielsen Company, more than 95 percent of FOX News viewers are white. So the data clearly shows an extreme, right wing bias on Fox news compared to any television cable station, while there is no available data to suggest that CNN has a similarly leftist bias.
Having said that, CNN is SLIGHTLY left of center just based on the standings of the majority of it's journalists. You can tell by the nature of the stories covered and by the tone of the political analysts how they lean. Piers Morgan is clearly a liberal (as expected for a Briton) and Anderson Cooper also comes off as very liberal in his reporting. Wolf Blitzer comes off as mostly neutral (leaning slightly left) in most of his reporting and moderating, however Jack Cafferty spends about as much time bashing liberal democrats as he does conservative republicans and comes off as anti-Obama more often than not. Depending on the day of the week he is either a conservative, a liberal or a moderate. Both John King and Erin Burnett come off as completely neutral and neither appears to report with either a liberal or conservative bias in my observation. In fact John King actually comes off as one of the most neutral reporters on ALL of the cable news channels.

The proof that CNN is mostly neutral in its reporting is the ratings of the network compared to those of it's two primary competitors (Fox News and MSNBC). It has the lowest ratings of all three major networks with only HLN its sister network having lower ratings.
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/category/ratings
A general rule of thumb when determining media bias in new media is to look at the ratings. The higher the ratings, the more biased it is. The lower the ratings the more neutral it is. Why? Because people gravitate towards the "news" that they want to hear and from the viewpoints and personalities that they agree with. Fox news has the highest ratings because it is one of the only conservative leaning news networks on TV. They compete with NOBODY because any and all conservative republicans (half the country) are more likely to watch Fox News than any other outlet. MSNBC has the second highest because they have a significant liberal bias. Liberals generally prefer the liberal spin MSNBC puts on their programming more than CNN (which comes off as neutral). So even though CNN is still considered "liberal" by conservative measures, it is not nearly liberal enough for liberals! Moderates (of which there are less of) generally prefer CNN. HLN is an unbiased network that reports only news and has no programming devoted towards political commentary. It therefore has the lowest ratings!

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
FOX news only caters to wingnuts and will only have on guests who gleefully swim in that right wing mindset. By contrast, CNN commonly features conservative pundits.

Re: CNN vs. FOX News
Fox news is garbage. At my job they keep one of the tv's tuned to it and i can barely stand it. Bunch of glossy and sarcastic analysts spewing conservative republican crap. CNN (which another one of the tv's is on) is no where near their opposite extreme.

Oh please Fox is looney tunes rightwing. CNN is more neutral, MSNBC is pretty biased like Fox but to the left. The only people who think just reporting the news is left wing are the ones who think Fox isn't totally biased.Forgiveness Man wrote:CNN is very much a leftist network.
